Recently someone accused me of "Victim shaming".

Let's clear this up for the record.

1). If you are missing a loved one and refuse to use trained resources and then continue to whine on the internet about not being able to find your loved one, all I'm going to do is give you our web site link and you can either contact us or not. Now if you are feeling guilty about not using us, that's on you. That's not victim shaming. I'm not going to go public and make any comments about your situation.

2). If a person dies doing something 100% preventable such as kayaking without a PFD, or dying from hypothermia while out on a hike. I'm going to put it out there to the public that this is 100% preventable. If you don't like it, I'm sorry but you're not the one that has for 51 years gotten out of bed, left their families behind, donating your own time, money, skills, to go find and recover an individual and then return to tell their loved ones, they aren't coming home anymore. It does get very frustrating to have to do this over and over again.

If you have an issue then instead of badmouthing me for "Victim shaming" why not be adult enough to write me directly and ask why I wrote what I wrote. Maybe just maybe you might understand a little better why I do write about victims and preventable deaths.

It's hopefully a learning incident. Taking something negative and turning it into something positive so other folks can think" Hey, I do kayak, boat, fish, raft and should wear my PFD or, I do like to hunt, photograph wildlife, camp, hike. Maybe I should carry my 10 essentials so I could survive long enough for SAR folks to come find me alive and save my life.
